A Rotating Disk Evaporator (RDE) is a type of thin film evaporator designed for the concentration, distillation, or separation of heat-sensitive or viscous liquids under reduced pressure (vacuum). It utilizes a rotating disk or series of disks to spread the liquid into a thin film over a heated surface, which significantly improves heat transfer and evaporation efficiency. 🔧 Working Principle Feed Introduction: The liquid to be evaporated is introduced onto the rotating disk(s). Thin Film Formation: As the disk rotates, centrifugal force spreads the liquid into a thin film. Heating: The disk or adjacent wall is heated (usually via steam or thermal oil), causing the solvent (typically water or another volatile component) to evaporate. Vapor Removal: Vapors are removed through a vacuum system to maintain low pressure and enhance evaporation.
